Best beach tip?

Rent a beach cabana. The rental kiosk staff sets it up. Swim, body surf, take a walk, whale watch, go to lunch, read a book, take a nap, get some sun, get some shade, it's yours all day. Well worth the rental fee of $45.00 a day. Or rent it by the week.

Is there public transportation?

The Kaanapali Trolley (808-667-0648) runs throughout the resort daily and is free to resort guests.

How can I help protect coral reefs?
Corals, although they look like rock, are living animals. Please do not touch, walk or stand on coral as this can kill the living coral polyps that are the builders of the reef structure. Never break off pieces of coral. Taking live coral is illegal in Hawaii. And, please don't feed the fish as it upsets the natural
balance of the reef.
Can you recommend a grocery store?
Safeway in Lahaina (sign up for their saver's card) and Times Supermarket in the Honokowai Marketplace north of Kaanapali.
Where can I learn about ocean conditions?
To get information on beach conditions, safety information, weather and surf reports:
Favorite places to snorkel nearby?
Kahekili Beach (old airport) is a well groomed park for families and their beginner snorkelers. Restrooms, water, and showers can be found here. Travel north on Hwy 31 until mile mark 25.1 (railway station on right), turn left onto Kai Ala Drive. And, Olowalu, south of Lahaina on Hwy 30, look for mile marker 14. One of Maui's most popular snorkeling and diving areas. Easy access with abundant coral and fish.
Where can I find beach glass in Maui?

Pick a beach. Try in front of Cheeseburgers in Paradise in Lahaina, Kam III in Kihei and Keawakapu Beach near Maalaea Bay. It is best to go to the beach when the tide has gone out (low tide). The water is calm at low tide and many rocks and pieces of coral have washed ashore with sea glass mixed in. You can also try digging in the sand where the smoother worn down pieces are found. Take a container to collect the glass.

Banana Wind at Lahaina Cannery Mall sells sea glass and shells.
